Justin Thompson grew up in Ontario into a family of entrepreneurs. He can fondly remember hanging around the offices and the warehouses at knee height to most. Justin’s maternal grandfather owned and operated several Coca-Cola franchises and was always keen to share his knowledge of the business. Justin’s paternal grandfather was also an entrepreneur with numerous different business endeavours, but Justin says that renovating with his grandfather who was also a carpenter, started his love for construction. Boarding school, (Lakefield College School) solidified Justin’s independent attitude early on and school sports taught him the importance of not only working as a team member, but also being an effective leader. A decision to defer typical college education for a year while experiencing all that British Columbia, Canada, has to offer eventually led to nixing the “typical” college experience and in its place, Justin completed formal schooling in Tourism Management to achieve Canadian Helicopter Ski Guide certification after falling in love with skiing and the mountains. In 2004, after drawing on his experience in high-stakes adventure, and a passion for building things in the summer months – including teams, Justin started a general maintenance business to help seasonal cottage owners on Georgian Bay for six years. Justin thanks his time working as a Heli Guide and his intense training in risk management and mitigation as something that has been incredibly useful in his life, especially in growing his Alair business. After moving back to Ontario permanently in 2010, Justin started Bowerbird Custom Design and Build Inc. which specialized in building 2 timber-frame homes. In 2015, Justin took the leap to join the Alair family as Partner of the offices in the iconic cottage destinations of Muskoka and Georgian Bay, Ontario. In 2018, he took hold of the opportunity to champion the Ontario & Ohio Regional Partner Role, leading a team of over 100 people all dedicated to improving the construction industry by ultimately assisting people to live happier, healthier and more productive lives and has never looked back. Justin is married to Nadia and they have two little boys. When not providing support to those building luxury dream homes for the hundreds of clients served each year, Justin can be found enjoying nature by boating, golfing, mountain biking, fishing, skiing or mixing up a favourite cocktail.
