I attended the Southeast Building Science Symposium in Charlotte, NC in October this year and it was an incredible event. The presenters tackled Building Science issues, how codes play into all of this, and the testing that has shaped high performance building. The presenters were Steve Baczek, Jake Bruton, Kohta Ueno, and Ross Trethewey.
While at the event I also met Travis Brungardt from the BS* & Beer crew (Building Science & Beer). This group started in Kansas City and BS & Beer groups have been popping up around the country. The BS & Beer movement helped grow the Building Science Symposium idea and it too has spread across North America.
BS* and Beer is a local discussion group for builders, architects, engineers, tradespeople and anyone interested in better building. Building Science* is simply the laws of physics, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics applied to the building. We gather monthly at a brewery, pub or job site to discuss these topics in our industry, enjoy a few refreshments, and engage in the high performance building community.
If you're a building science geek like myself then I highly recommend looking into future events and supporting any local meetups near you.
